Youth Ministry FAQ | Excerpts from Bill's Book

One of the most exciting and challenging areas of ministry is working with youth and their families. To have a successful program, it must be attractive and interesting to today's youth. In other words, it must be dynamic! The best youth ministries are not cookie cutter-youth groups but, rather, ones that have their own unique style and persona. What works at Saddle Back may not work at your church. The best programs compliment the goals and vision of their congregation and live out the mission of their church. By doing so, they also foster discipleship.

Working in youth ministry is not for the faint hearted. Youth directors/ministers are bombarded daily with information and it can be challenging to determine what to pay attention to and what to ignore. Pop culture, generational trends, and the impact of today's music - both Christian and popular, are areas of potential pitfall for the uninitiated youth director. Other areas that fall into the responsibility area of youth minister include recruiting, training and keeping adult mentors, faith development, fundraising, pastoral counseling, church & staff relations, preaching, teaching, worship design, trip planning, and relating to parents. The list could go in forever. How one performs in each of these and a hundred other areas can mean the difference between a blockbuster program and a miserable failure.

Bill Johnson can help you and your ministry shine. After 20 years as a professional and volunteer in the field of youth ministry, Bill understands the youth pastor's challenges. He knows the issues because he has been there. Because of his experience, Bill has developed an area of his coaching practice dedicated to working with this often-misunderstood area of ministry. To use Bill's own words, "While it is true that 'Many are called…' it is also true that all too few are any good! At first that may sound harsh but it's been my experience that regardless of background, doing youth ministry is a skill and not an easy one to master. Where I can be useful is to serve as a sounding board and prayerfully listen to their struggles and concerns, offer insight and perspective and help them draw out the solutions to problems. I can also coach [the youth pastor] in how to make their program grow. And that will create benefits not only for the program and the church, but for the youth minister's career as well."

Life Coaching & Consulting, Inc. has a special interest in this area and seeks to further serve youth through the development of their leaders. We have faith in your talents and abilities to reach these youth and make a difference. Together, we can touch the lives of so many more!
